Morgan Beef has commissioned a solar installation at its Springs abattoir. On-site solar generation reduces daytime grid demand.
The panels generate during the hours in which the chillers, the slaughter floor and the deboning rooms draw the most electricity. The grid supply stays connected for the evening, the night and days of low sunshine.
The installed capacity and the first measured savings will be published here once the commissioning certificate and a full quarter of meter readings are on file.
The installation is one part of the programme described on the sustainability page, which also covers composting. Organic by-products are composted and returned to agricultural soils.
